The Requirements

Wind turbines for farmers and landowners

Listed below are the basic requirements for both single wind turbine projects and larger wind farm projects.

Single wind turbine projects

  • The sites need to be in excess of 30 acres.
  • There needs to be a grid connection on the land or close by.
  • Land should not be situated within a National Park, SSSI or AONB. It also needs to be more than about 20 miles away from an airport or radar installation.
  • The land can still be farmed whilst the wind turbine is in operation.
  • A 22 yr lease from you for the land covering the site.

Wind farm projects

  • The sites need to be in excess of 300 acres.
  • There needs to be a grid connection on the land or close by.
  • Land should not be situated within a National Park, SSSI or AONB. It also needs to be more than about 20 miles away from an airport or radar installation.

If you have extensive farm buildings with roofs they may be suitable for solar roof mounted schemes aswell. There could be the opportunity for multiply energy schemes on land or buildings within your ownership. See the solar energy pages for more information.

If you would like to know more about the advantages of wind turbines, we would be pleased to meet with you to survey the location and evaluate the potential of using your land for wind or solar energy.
